- Compare all returned matches. Use the agency, age or birth detail, identifier, and custody context rather than choosing a name alone.
- Open the correct record and record the status phrase, event date, reporting agency, and displayed update time.

A released status is stronger when the reporting agency and event date match the person’s known custody. It remains narrower than the county release record. The Sheriff’s record can identify release type, departure time, and destination when those public fields are available. A court order can explain legal authority, though its timestamp may not equal physical release.

The PIN acknowledges receipt of an automated phone notice. Official North Carolina policy says calls may continue until the PIN is entered. It is not a search credential and should not be shared with the person being tracked. If a call is missed or not acknowledged, repeated calls may be part of the system’s design.
NC SAVAN Catawba Release Alerts

This statewide branding matters because a reader may encounter “NC SAVAN,” “VINE,” and “VINELink” in different official materials even though they belong to the connected notification process.
The DAC Victim Support service adds state-prison and post-release context. Its notifications can involve projected or actual release and certain supervision events. A projected notice is advance information, not a promise of the exact departure time. A supervision termination alert is also different from the first release from prison.

Catawba VINELink Release Limits
VINELink does not cover every custody system. The Federal Bureau of Prisons has its own locator. U.S. Marshals pretrial custody has no comparable nationwide public locator, and ICE uses its Online Detainee Locator. A person who leaves the Catawba County Detention Facility for a federal or immigration authority may generate a county departure without a community release.
Data can lag physical events. A court order may precede jail processing, and a notification may arrive later. VINELink also does not replace the Catawba court file. Release from custody does not itself resolve pending charges, and a transfer can create a release event from one agency followed by a new custody event elsewhere.
